Customer's request leads to a new standard in tear-resistant medical foam:

A large medical device manufacturer approached us to create a product that was soft and conformable; could absorb large volumes of post-operative exudates; and had extraordinary tear strength when fully saturated. Our customer evaluated a number of PVA devices, none of which met their specifications.

Rynel's medical grade of hydrophilic polyurethane foam met our customers requirements for softness, comfort, and absorption, but required additional reinforcement or modification to meet the tear strength requirement.

We developed a unique method of incorporating a layer of polyester mesh reinforcement in the foam. The final product had a tear strength that exceeded the customer's specifications and expectations. In the process, we invented a method to round and seal the edges of the product, which protected the patient from exposure to any abrasive polyester mesh.
